MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING IN NUTRITION AND FITNESS

I teamed up with a local dietitian to write this book for nutritionists, dietitians, fitness experts and health coaches, to enhance their client sessions. Making and maintaining lasting changes in nutrition and fitness is not easy for anyone. The communication style of a health professional can make a huge difference. This book presents the proven counseling approach known as motivational interviewing (MI) and shows exactly how to use it in day-to-day interactions with clients. MI offers simple yet powerful tools for helping clients work through ambivalence, break free of diets and quick-fix solutions, and overcome barriers to change. Extensive sample dialogues illustrate specific ways to enhance conversations about meal planning and preparation, exercise, body image, disordered eating, and more.

HAES® CURRICULUM

I supervised the development of the Health At Every Size® Curriculum, which was developed for college and university professors to make it easier to educate students on the HAES® principles. This website curriculum was made possible through a collaboration between The Association for Size Diversity and Health (ASDAH), the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance (NAAFA), and the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior (SNEB). The curriculum includes free PowerPoints to download, video-recorded lectures and accompanying assignment ideas, resources, and exam questions. This curriculum has been used over the last few years by professors and health care professionals worldwide.

HEALTH AT EVERY SIZE® BLOG

As former chair of the Association for Size Diversity and Health (ASDAH) Education Committee, I oversaw the Health At Every Size® Blog. This position involved recruiting writers, editing blogs and making contributions myself. Here's a blog I wrote during the 2016 Olympic Games.

NAAFA GUIDELINES FOR NUTRITIONISTS AND DIETITIANS

NAAFA stands for the National Association for the Advancement of Fat Acceptance. I was invited to co-author these guidelines, which educate nutritionists and dietitians on steps they can take to eradicate size discrimination and weight bias within their work settings.

BODYBLOVED Blog

I am co-founder of BodyBLoved, a faith-based non-diet program aimed at empowering faith communities in discovering healing relationships with food, fitness and body image through the unconditional love of God. As the blog manager, I contribute to the blog often, and manage and edit blogs written by our team members. We are currently working on developing a video curriculum and devotional to be used by faith communities and individuals.
